Should Pluto regain its status as a real planet?

Some scientists even responded to the IAU's move by suggesting that the definition be extended to focus on the physical characteristics of the planet under consideration.


And now a recent article reinforces the idea of ​​revisiting the way planets are classified, arguing that the old methods are not really based on science but on folklore and astrology. If you have lost it, none of them are based on empirical evidence, and therefore do not state any objective facts independent of observation (primarily, because they cannot be disproved.) ). And a recent study, led by University of Central Florida planetary scientist Philip Metzger, led researchers to say that the definition of planets should go back to basics, and focus on one important factor: the cosmology. For five years, the team thoroughly analyzed the last 400 years of scientific literature on the planets, and discovered that Galileo's definition of the 1630s had gradually faded. The famous Renaissance man argued that the planets are just objects made up of elements that, like the earth, change over time. Recent research researchers have interpreted this to mean geological activity. Galileo's other condition was that the planets should reflect sunlight, rather than create their own. The definition of man continued until the 20th century, when the discovery of Pluto and the loss of interest in planetary science, "disrupted the transmission of the practical classification that descended from Galileo." Although we cannot say for sure whether Pluto will ever regain its former status as a planet from the IAU, it is studies like Metzger and his colleagues that tell us this.
