What is Metaverse? Why is Facebook rebranding?

Is Metaverse a reality or just a dream

Metaverse has become a reality that has taken the tech industry by storm. The term 'Metavers' was originally coined by Neil Stephenson's 1992 cyber punk novel, Snow Crash. In the book Snow Crash, Metaverse is described as a common imaginary space available to the public on the Internet and is presented through virtual reality springs. Metaverse received much acclaim when Mark Zuckerberg revealed his plans to change the name of Facebook's company.

Metaverse is a theoretical repetition of the Internet, full of virtual and reality experiences. Many tech leaders have described it as an online world where people can use their digital avatar to work, play, shop and more.

People can even interact in many ways and do things that are only possible in the digital world. In essence, Metaverse is about delivering real-world experiences in the digital world.

Why did Facebook rebrand itself to Meta?

Even before Mark's re-branding, he was vocal about changing how people perceive the company. He wanted Facebook to be known not only as a social media company but also as a Metavers company.

Facebook has already spent millions on virtual reality (VR) and AR research, and has acquired virtual reality (VR) companies like Oculus. But now, the company has fully committed itself to building Metaverse, no matter how many years it takes.

According to Zuckerberg, "Metaverse is a virtual environment where you can be with people in digital places. You can think of it as an embodied Internet that you are in, rather than seeing. We believe. It is going to be the successor of mobile internet.

What is possible in Metaverse?

The concept of Metavers is similar to movies like Ready Player One, where people use VR headsets to enter the digital world. In Metaverse, you will be able to do amazing things that you could not do before. These include impossible things like walking on the moon, visiting famous places, working in virtual offices, etc.

All this will be possible from the comfort of your home. Fortunately, many of these things are somewhat possible with current (VR) technology. However, Metaverse is limited to VR and relates to any real event happening in the digital world. A popular example is the virtual concerts with notable artists in the musical industry, such as Ariana Grande, Marshmello, etc.

Metaverse will become an intersection point for many technologies such as AR / VR, blockchain, artificial intelligence, cloud, NFTs, cryptocurrency, etc.

Many tech companies, starting with Facebook, jumped on the Metaverse bandwagon to meet the demand for real-world interactions in the digital spaces. Great for Virtual Reality (VR) and AR enthusiasts. However, it will take some time for Metaverse to be fully developed and accepted by the general public.

With the tech industry constantly changing direction, there is a chance that all this hype will end after a few years, as has happened in the past. So let's wait and see how Metavers is made
